Toyota is currently gradually getting rid of the popular 3.5-liter V6 engine with its new cars, replacing it in the 2023 three-row three-row Hilander SUV with a naturally respirated 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine with a total power of 265 horsepower and 309 lb-ft of torque and thus 30 horsepower in the number of ponies by 30 horsepower than the V-6 engine but an increase of 46 lb-ft of torque.

The Japanese brand claims that the new engine in the 2023 four-cylinder Toyota Highlander will achieve the same fuel consumption rate, which is 24 mpg combined as the V-6 according to U.S. Environmental Protection Agency ratings.

Toyota has also announced its 2023 Highlander price list, with the core turbocharged L processing class starting at $37,755 while the Platinum class starts at $50,410; prices all increase several hundred dollars for all levels of fitting, and the all-wheel drive option of $1,600. The new gas engine will again be paired with an 8-speed automatic transmission and a choice between front-wheel drive or all-wheel drive.

The Lexus NX350 also uses a version of the new four-cylinder engine to produce 275 horsepower and 317 pounds of torque. The towing capacity of the Toyota Highlander of 5,000 pounds will not change. The company also keeps the same hybrid version unchanged with the same transmission unit for the 2022 model, with the same Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) ratings of up to 36 mpg combined for the front-wheel drive model.

Other updates include the 2023 Toyota Highlander 12.3-inch digital instrument kit of customer choice that is offered with Limited and Platinum processing levels with electrically folding mirrors standard on all 2023 models, and XLE and XSE levels acquire an electric tailgate as standard.
