Maserati has returned to the GT segment with the all-new GranTurismo, which debuted earlier this week, and the lineup includes the first ever electric car produced by the Italian brand

Maserati will present a large electric version without a roof, according to Massimo Capaldi, head of Maserati's global products division, who recently interviewed Autocar magazine, reflecting the company's future direction towards enhancing its versions of electric vehicles.

Capaldi confirmed that the convertible will get a battery-powered electric version and will offer something very unique an emission-free powertrain along with four seats and (probably) a fabric roof.

Executives view the Bentley Continental GT Revealed as a direct competitor in terms of price, and the price of the Maserati GT is expected to start at over £200,000 or nearly $230,000 at current exchange rates.

Maserati has not revealed official performance figures yet, but by a large percentage Gran Cabrio will be similar to GranTurismo, meaning it will rely on a 3.0-liter twin-turbocharged engine that will power the combustion version, providing 489 horsepower (365 kW) and 442 lbs (600 Nm) of torque in the Modena model. The Trofeo, which leads the range, has 550 horsepower (410 kW) and 650 lb-ft (650 Nm).

Although the electric version is what makes GranCabrio unique in the market, the GranTurismo Volgor features a dual-engine electric motor with 750 hp (560 kW) and an instant torque of 995 lb-ft (1,350 Nm), making it the most powerful GranTurismo in existence easily.

The revived GranCabrio is expected to launch in the second half of next year and will arrive alongside an electric version of Gercal, meaning the Italian brand will offer three electric cars for sale in late 2023.
