Foxtron competes with Tesla Model 3 with its Model B hatchback

Foxtron, the automaker division of Taiwanese electronics giant Foxconn, has unveiled the initial preview of a new electric hatchback called the Model B before it is fully unveiled on October 18, as part of Foxconn's Technology Day.

The Focus Model B was designed by Pininfarina, a luxury Italian design company based in Turin, Italy, to be a Model B the same size as the Volkswagen ID 3 and a strong competitor against the Tesla Model Y, and Model B is the third electric passenger car to be unveiled by Foxtron, after unveiling the Model C and Model E that was unveiled in 2021.

Foxtron was founded in 2020 as a joint venture between electronics manufacturer Foxconn and Taiwanese car manufacturer Yulon, and Foxtron also unveiled an electric bus called Model T and a pickup car known as Model 5.

Foxtron confirms that the Model B is based on the platform of the MiH electric SUV, which also supports the Model C and the Model E, no details about the transport unit in the new model have yet been revealed, although officials suggest that it was designed to accept both single-engine and two-engine all-wheel drive settings.

Although the Foxtron Model B is still in concept phase and has not switched to large-scale production, the Model B is expected to reach production without significant change and go on sale by 2024 as part of Foxtron's extended and growing range, including production versions for both the versatile sports SUV C and the Model E Saloon.

The CEO of "Foxconn", Yang-Wei Liu, confirmed that the development of the Model E has reached its final stages and is about to be completed, and the production of the new saloon car is scheduled to begin during the second quarter of 2023. Besides the production activities scheduled to take place in Taipei, Taiwan, starting in 2023, Foxtron says it will start building cars at a plant in Ohio, United States, in 2024, Yang Wei Liu added to reporters that the US plant is designed with an annual production capacity of up to 500,000 cars.

In a move that reflects the contractual manufacturing activities of parent company Foxconn, which produces Apple's iPhone, Foxtron plans to offer its manufacturing expertise to other companies, as the Taiwanese company has already signed a manufacturing agreement to produce the second planned electric passenger car for Fisker, named Pear.
